Hello, I'm Jenny Grinnell. I'm a trained professional genealogist with bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Boston College. I'm a certificate-holder of Boston University's Genealogical Research program with additional course work in Irish Genealogical Research, Genetic Genealogy, and Advanced Forensic Studies from the Genealogical Institute of Pennsylvania, the Texas Institute of Genealogical Research, and Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy.
I'm the Program Coordinator for GenProof Study groups. GenProof trains and educates professional genealogists on the genealogical proof standard, which is the bedrock of professional, ethical, and reliable work. I feel fortunate to be involved with GenProof and the professional standards they promote.
I'm the Vice President of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists, Middlesex Chapter. MSOG is committed to promoting Massachusetts genealogical research and education at all levels. The Middlesex Chapter offers a robust speaker schedule from September through June. All programming is virtual to encourage access to our members throughout the United States.
I'm also a genealogical researcher for Eagle Investigative Services on behalf of the U.S. Army’s Past Conflict Repatriation Branch. The PCRB's commitment to MIA and KIA U.S. Soldiers is one of the most direct and meaningful forms of patriotism and promise-keeping I've experienced. I'm honored to do this work. Read more about the Army's mission here.
My work as a forensic genealogist gives me the privilege of helping victims of abuse or harm reconnect with their legal representation. Sometimes, these victims move, lose contact, or prefer to keep their privacy, and I use my specialized skills to locate them and facilitate communication with their lawyers. These cases require sensitivity and efficiency, and I am honored to play a role in ensuring justice is served. My work helps plaintiffs receive the settlements and closure they deserve. Like many in the Boston area, I'm of recent Irish descent but with a long colonial lineage in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I live in Dover, Massachusetts with my husband, Chris Gardner, and three sons, Ryan, Cooper and Jamie. Maggie, my beloved yellow Labrador, keeps me company on long walks and snoozes under my desk while I research. She regularly gets put in her place by our cats, Pickles and Hazel.
