When you work with The Jennyologist, you will start with a complimentary consultation to discuss your needs, interests, and research objectives. I'll help you develop a clear goal and productive research question to guide the work. No work will start until you're satisfied with the project's direction. Once I begin working, I'll review your information, documents, DNA results (if appropriate), and prior research to avoid duplication and ensure accuracy. Depending on the length of the project, I'll update you on my progress during an agreed-upon timeline. All research products will be delivered as a digital file unless a printed copy is requested.
I have bachelor's and master's degrees in history from Boston College, where I focused on early modern European and medieval social and cultural history. I studied Insular manuscripts and developed a lifelong interest in reading old script. I'm a certificate-holder in Genealogical Research from Boston University and have completed institute-level coursework on Irish Genealogical Research, Genetic Genealogy, and Forensic Genealogy from SLIG and GRIP. My research interests include colonial New England, Nova Scotia and migration to "the Boston States," farming families, nineteenth-century Irish immigration to Connecticut and Boston, military repatriation, and post-WWII research.
Genealogists typically work in time blocks, starting with a minimum of 10 hours depending on the project. This gives us the best chance to make progress on your research question, write up our findings and adhere to the genealogy standards and ethics.
As a professional genealogist, I adhere to the Genealogical Proof Standard. Working to these standards assures my clients and colleagues that I am 1. conducting reasonably exhaustive research, 2. creating complete and accurate source citations, 3. conducting thorough analysis and correlation, 4. resolving all conflicting evidence, and 5. creating soundly written conclusions based on the strongest available evidence.
